Here’s short explanation of widely used terms while corona virus pandemic:
Epidemic term is used to describe any infectious disease that has grown out of control. But it’s mostly concentrated in some region or country. Main example is seasonal flu. It could be flu epidemic in one region and in another region only a few people sick with this disease.
Endemic term is used to describe that particular disease is always present in certain population or region. Malaria, dengue, yellow fever are main examples. Half of the world’s population live in high risk regions.
Term outbreaks is used to illustrate the situation when disease occurs in greater number than expected.
Pandemic is a situation when disease spread across a large region or worldwide. Currently WHO declared corona virus as pandemic.
